It has been shown to be an active methylene in tumor xenografts, which may be due to its ability to bind the 2-adrenergic receptor. Fmoc-D-Asp-OH also binds with high affinity to the 2-adrenergic receptor and exhibits chemoattractant protein activity. The detection sensitivity of Fmoc-D-Asp-OH has been shown to be high in vitro assays, as it can be detected at concentrations as low as 1 nM. This molecule is structurally related to covidin and has fluorescence properties that can be used for imaging purposes.
