1(2H)-Naphthalenone is a natural compound that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. The enantiomer form of 1(2H)-naphthalenone has been shown to be more potent than the racemic mixture in inducing apoptosis. The acetate extract of lettuce containing 1(2H)-naphthalenone exhibits antiproliferative activity against cervical cancer cells in tissue culture.
