  • Lanthanum iodide

    CAS:
    Lanthanum iodide is a compound with the chemical formula LaI. It is a reaction product of lanthanum and iodine that is used in chronic kidney disease patients to lower phosphorus levels in urine. Lanthanum iodide has been shown to be effective in reducing the level of phosphorus in urine by binding to the phosphate ion, which prevents its reabsorption. The complex formed between lanthanum and iodine can be isolated as a white powder after precipitation. The structure of this complex has been determined using x-ray diffraction data, showing that it is an octahedral molecule with the rare earth metal ion at the center and iodide ions on six faces of the octahedron. The crystal structure was also found by x-ray crystallography. This compound's chemical stability has been tested by reacting it with hydrochloric acid, which did not result in any changes to its chemical structure or properties. Lanthanum iodide also has an NMR spectrum, which displays signals
