    Amprolium is a coccidiostat that acts by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid in the gastrointestinal tract. Amprolium is a chloride salt of 3-(2-chloroethyl)-1-(2-fluoroethyl)-1-nitroso-urea. It has been shown to be effective against coccidiosis, which is an intestinal infection caused by the protozoan parasite Eimeria. Amprolium also has a synergistic effect with pyridinium compounds, such as pyrimethamine, and can be used to treat coccidiosis in animals. Amprolium has not been shown to have any adverse effects on humans when used at recommended doses.
