Descarbonsildenafil-d6 is a synthetic molecule that can be used to analyze the structural features of sildenafil, which is a drug for erectile dysfunction. Descarbonsildenafil-d6 is also an inhibitor of PDE5 and was synthesized to identify the binding site of this enzyme. This molecule has been shown to inhibit PDE5 in vitro and in vivo. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies have shown that descarbon sildenafil binds to a pocket on the surface of PDE5 that contains a piperazine moiety.
