Molybdenum hexacarbonyl is a solid catalyst that can be used in the synthesis of organic compounds. Molybdenum hexacarbonyl is a chemical compound that is stable and has a low reactivity. It is a transition metal carbonyl, which consists of molybdenum, carbon monoxide, and an alkene. The hydroxyl group on the alkene coordinates to the molybdenum atom and forms a six-membered ring with four carbons. This complex is reactive towards nucleophiles, such as amines or alcohols. Molybdenum hexacarbonyl has been shown to be useful in synthesizing lipids from cholesterol esters in bowel disease. It also reacts with hydroxyl groups on fatty acids to form new molecules that are important for cell signaling pathways involved in inflammatory bowel disease.
