It inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to the release of cytochrome c and apoptosis induction. 7HMOCA has been shown to be a reactive molecule with benzimidazole derivative properties. This compound depletes cellular glutathione levels and increases intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, which leads to DNA fragmentation, cell cycle arrest, and ultimately apoptosis induction when combined with other agents.
