    Aluminium phthalocyanine chloride (APC) is a photosensitizer that has been used in experimental squamous cell carcinoma. It has been shown to activate oxygen species, which can react with DNA and lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species. APC is cytotoxic to cells in culture and causes the inhibition of DNA synthesis. It has also been shown to be more effective at killing cervical carcinoma cells than squamous cell carcinoma cells.
