It can be used to produce many different products such as anisoles, sulfur trioxide, and hydrogen sulfate. 3-(Trifluoromethoxy)anisole reacts with nitromethane to form an acetyl group. The acetyl group can then react with hydrogen sulfate to form sulfuric acid. Hydrogen sulfate can react with sulfur trioxide in a transfer reaction to form sulfuric acid.
