The thermal expansion of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate is low, which makes it suitable as a coolant in refrigeration systems. This compound also interacts with hydrogen fluoride in the gas phase and light emission has been observed upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The experimental solubility data of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate reveals that it can dissolve in water at room temperature. Structural analysis revealed that this compound contains both ionic and covalent bonds. The model system for this compound is 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCE).
