7-Bromo-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid (7BOCA) is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to be an effective anticancer agent. 7BOCA inhibits the proliferation of leukemia, colon cancer, and breast cancer cells in vitro. It also induces apoptosis in tumor cells by altering the expression of cell cycle regulatory proteins and inducing DNA fragmentation. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of colon cancer cells in vivo. Cancer cell lines that have been tested for antitumor activity show significant inhibition of tumor growth when exposed to 7BOCA.
