1,3-Thiazole-2-carbonitrile is a heterocyclic compound that is synthesized by the reductive cleavage of n-oxides or homologues. It can be used in the synthesis of thiazoles, which are a group of compounds with a long chain and a thiazole ring. 1,3-Thiazole-2-carbonitrile is also an isoxazoline, which cyclizes to form a formyl and cycloadduct. This compound has also been shown to be able to reduce nitrile groups to dihydrofuran rings.
