CAS:3,5-Dimethyl-2-hydroxymethyl-4-nitropyridine is a proton pump inhibitor that inhibits the H+,K+-ATPase enzyme of gastric parietal cells, which is responsible for acid secretion. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind to the magnesium ion in this enzyme’s active site. 3,5-Dimethyl-2-hydroxymethyl-4-nitropyridine has been shown to inhibit the activity of the proton pump by binding to its anion binding site with high affinity and specificity. 3,5-Dimethyl-2-hydroxymethyl-4-nitropyridine also inhibits esomeprazole magnesium (EEM), a drug used in treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
