It is an inhibitor of glutamate, which is a neurotransmitter that activates the ccr5 receptor on white blood cells. This inhibition prevents the activation of the ccr5 receptor by glutamate and its subsequent entry into the cell. Methyl 4-(chloroformyl)butyrate also has anti-inflammatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
