CAS:2-(Acetyloxy)-5-bromobenzoic acid is a synthetic analog of the statin 2-(acetyloxy)-3-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is used as a substrate for leukotriene D4 and an inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase. The compound inhibits the activity of the enzyme that catalyzes the formation of arachidonic acid from phospholipids by inhibition of protein kinase C, which leads to decreased production of prostaglandins. This drug also has antiinflammatory properties and can be used to treat heart disease. 2-(Acetyloxy)-5-bromobenzoic acid binds to the active site on 5-lipoxygenase and prevents access to the substrate binding site, thereby inhibiting lipid peroxidation. The structural analogs are 2-[(1R,2S)acetyloxy]-5-bromobenzoic acid and 2-[(1Formula:C9H7BrO4Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:259.05 g/mol
