5-Hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylic acid

5-Hydroxy-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid is a genus of natural products found in Chinese medicinal herbs. It has potent inhibitory activity against microbial metabolism and is used to treat inflammatory diseases. 5-Hydroxy-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid was shown to have antihypertensive activity in animal studies, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of picolinic acid. This substance also has an acute toxicity study that showed it had no effects on mice up to the dose of 2000 mg/kg. The toxicity studies also show that the substance does not cause any adverse reactions with chondroitin sulfate or galacturonic acid, which are both found in cartilage tissue.
