CAS:Pramlintide is a synthetic, short-acting insulinotropic peptide that has been shown to reduce postprandial glucagon secretion and delay gastric emptying. It also has a number of physiological effects, including the activation of ATP-sensitive potassium channels, inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation, and induction of mitochondrial membrane potential. Pramlintide is approved for use in the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug binds to the glucagon receptor on pancreatic alpha cells and stimulates insulin release from beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner. Pramlintide has been shown to have no significant effect on glycemic control when used as an adjunct to insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
