  • (E)-3-(Furan-2-yl)acrylic acid

    CAS:
    (E)-3-(Furan-2-yl)acrylic acid is an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase, a key enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of triglycerides. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of lipoprotein lipase and reduce blood lipid levels in animal models. (E)-3-(Furan-2-yl)acrylic acid has been used as a lead compound for the development of drugs for treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. The reaction mechanism is proposed to involve the formation of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and its subsequent reaction with malonic acid to form methyl ethyl malonic ester. This ester then reacts with chloride ions to form hippuric acid, which can be detected by gas chromatography at low concentrations.
