It is highly soluble in water and easily diffuses through the skin. 1,4-Thioxane can be detected using GC-MS or LC-MS. The reaction mechanism of 1,4-thioxane has been shown to be a nucleophilic attack at the carbon atom adjacent to the hydroxyl group on the ring.
