Dimethylethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium, inner salt is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist that binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It has been shown to cause neuronal death in vitro and can be used as an assay for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. The monoclonal antibodies generated against this compound are useful for studies on recombinant proteins, such as hybridization or particle formation reactions. Dimethylethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium, inner salt also has the potential to be a drug target for growth factors or cell lysis. Flow assays have been developed using this compound which allow the measurement of enzymatic reaction rates in real time. This assay device consists of a microchip with an integrated flow cell and detector system.

Stability Hygroscopic Applications A non detergent sulfobetaine used as a mild solubilizing and stabilizing agent for halophilic malate dehydrogenase, halophilic elongation factor Tu (hTu), pig heart malate dehydrogenase, chicken egg white lysozyme and E. coli beta-galactosidase. Reduces aggregation and significantly improves protein renaturation. Zwitterionic over a wide pH range. Does not absorb significantly in the near-UV range.
