1-(2-(Benzylthio)-5-chlorothiophen-3-yl)ethanone (1) is a nucleophilic substrate that undergoes Friedel-Crafts reactions with hydrogen peroxide to form an intermediate compound. This intermediate can be further chlorinated by the addition of hydrochloric acid, which generates target products. The optimal reaction conditions for the formation of 1 are at pH 10, at room temperature, and with a concentration of 5% hydrochloric acid.
