Fmoc-D-Trp(Boc)-OH inhibits the histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzyme, which controls gene expression and cell proliferation, and is a potential anticancer drug. This molecule also inhibits the uptake of kynurenine by cancer cells, leading to cell death.
