Trans-4-(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid binds to the active site of amide synthase, inhibiting its function. TFCCA also has surface properties that allow it to be used as a biocide and pesticide. The molecular modeling suggests that TFCCA could be an inhibitor of bacterial cell wall synthesis, which suggests potential use for the prevention of biofilm formation on surfaces.
