CAS:Chrome azurol S is a chromogenic substrate that reacts with the bacterial enzyme urease to produce an insoluble purple formazan product. This reaction can be monitored using a spectrophotometer, which measures the change in optical density at 600 nm. Chrome azurol S is used as an analytical method for determining bacterial urease activity and has been shown to be effective against a wide range of bacteria, including gram-positive and gram-negative strains. Chrome azurol S is typically prepared as an injection solution and injected into a biological sample or human serum samples. The injection solution contains the chromogenic substrate, sodium azide, buffer, and distilled water. After incubation, the sample is heated in order to hydrolyze any remaining urea present in the sample. The concentration of urea is then calculated based on the amount of formazan produced by the reaction between chrome azurol S and urease.
