This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, and it also inhibits the activity of ring-opening dioxygenases by binding to their heme cofactor. 4-Bromothiophene-3-carboxylic acid is a potent inhibitor of acidic phosphatases, and it also inhibits polyphosphoric acid reductases. It is an inhibitor of homophthalate dioxygenase and nitrate reductase due to its ability to bind to their heme cofactors.
