CAS:3,3-Tetramethyleneglutaric acid (TMG) is a natural compound that is found in oroxylum indicum. It has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity on receptors for the neurotransmitter glutamate, which are involved in the central nervous system and mediate pain. In addition it has been shown to reduce symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. The mechanism of action of TMG is not well understood, but its effects are thought to be mediated by activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), which promotes mitochondrial biogenesis and reduces oxidative stress.
