AX-024 HCl is a drug designed for cancer treatment. It is a potent inhibitor of the human mismatch repair (MMR) protein, which is involved in the DNA mismatch repair process. This drug is used as a countermeasure to mismatched DNA following chemotherapy treatment in cancer patients. The inhibition of MMR activity by AX-024 HCl reduces the risk of cancer recurrence and relapse. This drug has also been shown to have anti-tumor effects on animal models and to inhibit tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. In addition, this agent has been shown to be safe when administered intravenously in animals. AX-024 HCl binds specifically with the MMR protein and inhibits its function by binding to the ATPase domain of the human MMR protein, preventing ATP hydrolysis with subsequent release of ADP and phosphate.
