It has been shown to be effective in treating glioma patients. 4-(2,5-Dioxo-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzoic acid binds to EGFR with an affinity greater than that of the natural ligand and blocks the binding of EGFR ligands such as epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor alpha (TGFα), and platelet derived growth factor (PDGF). This prevents the activation of downstream signaling pathways that lead to cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival.
