Specialty Silicon-Based Blocking Agent Used as a protecting group for reactive hydrogens in alcohols, amines, thiols, and carboxylic acids. Organosilanes are hydrogen-like, can be introduced in high yield, and can be removed under selective conditions. They are stable over a wide range of reaction conditions and can be removed in the presence of other functional groups, including other protecting groups. Chloro(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane is a chloromethylating agent that is used for the preparation of samples by thermal expansion. It is also used in metathesis reactions to improve the yield. Chloro(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane also reacts with nitrogen atoms to produce chlorinated compounds, which are used as a model for chlorine atom. This chemical agent has been studied in clinical studies and has been shown to have high resistance against heat and water. It can also be found in chlorophyll A, which is a molecule that contains a hydroxyl group and a chlorine atom.
