CAS:Eosin Y disodium salt is a water-soluble compound that is used as a fluorescent stain for biological samples. The compound has been shown to be toxic to mice, producing acute toxicities at high concentrations. Eosin Y also has a blue color and can be used to identify the presence of copper in vivo. Eosin Y is an effective agent for the treatment of wastewater, especially when combined with benzalkonium chloride. It can also be used in the treatment of skin cancer and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice.
