Rucl[(r,r)-tsdpen](mesitylene) is a hydrozirconation product that is synthesized by a sequential process. It is used as a biomolecular probe for studying the function of membranes. Rucl[(r,r)-tsdpen](mesitylene) inhibits the enzyme inhibitory activity of phospholipases and lipases in mammalian cells and has been shown to prevent cellular proliferation. This derivative also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in an animal model. Rucl[(r,r)-tsdpen](mesitylene) is an analog of ketone and has been shown to inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) activity in cell cultures.
