EMIMTFSI undergoes a phase transition from liquid to gas at temperatures below -30°C. EMIMTFSI is an excellent solvent for methyl ethyl and surfactant sodium dodecyl. It is used in ionic liquids as a solvent and as an electrolyte in electrochemical devices. EMIMTFSI also has been used in the synthesis of phosphorus pentoxide, which can be used in kinetic energy devices such as fuel cells.
