2-Bromo-3-trifluoromethyl pyridine is a bifunctional organopalladium catalyst. The catalyst is used to synthesize various pharmaceuticals, including β-blockers, antihistamines, and steroids. Catalysis with this complex can be optimized by changing the reaction conditions (e.g., solvent, temperature). For example, the use of copper as a co-catalyst in an assay provides higher yields than palladium catalysis alone. Furthermore, 2-bromo-3-trifluoromethyl pyridine has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for the preparation of β-adrenergic receptor agonists in functional assays.
