It has been shown to enhance the fluorescence of cells and to decrease the signal detection time. 3-Butenamine hydrochloride is also able to reversibly crosslink linear polymers into nanogels, which are capable of trapping ions and molecules. The x-ray crystal structures for 3-butenamine hydrochloride have been determined at room temperature and at temperatures up to 150°C.
