PHCCC is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to two molecules of the active form, pyrrolidinopyridine-2,4-dicarboxylate (PDC), which exerts its biological activity by binding to and activating P2Y receptors. PDCC has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in animal models of Parkinson's disease. This drug also exhibits potential as a target for the treatment of malignant brain tumors.
