Aluminum sulfate hydrate is a white, water-soluble powder that is used in wastewater treatment as an agent to remove phosphates. It also has been used in cell culture and particle characterization. Aluminum sulfate hydrate is a neutral salt that is highly soluble in water and has a particle size of less than 10 micrometers. The solubility of aluminum sulfate hydrate increases with increasing temperature, but it does not react with hydrochloric acid or activate at electrochemical potentials below 1.5 V. The activation energies for the dissolution of aluminum sulfate hydrate are 2.2 eV and 3.8 eV for the kinetic and diagnostic methods respectively, which indicates that dissolution is thermodynamically controlled by kinetic factors only when the solution pH is greater than 7.0
