2-(4-Cyanophenyl)benzothiazole is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of heterocycles. It is an excellent substrate for reactions with aldehydes and ketones to form 2-substituted benzothiazoles. These reactions are catalyzed by cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are located in the endoplasmic reticulum of cells. The reaction yields can be increased by using high concentrations of aldehydes and ketones, and at low pH values, such as 4 to 5.
