Lasofoxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator that belongs to the group of pharmacological agents. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, d-lasofoxifene and l-lasofoxifene. Lasofoxifene binds to the estrogen receptor with high affinity, but has only low affinity for other steroid hormone receptors. The effect of lasofoxifene on tumor growth and metastasis is not yet known. Lasofoxifene is an inhibitor of congestive heart failure in animal models, but does not have any effect on leukemia inhibitory factor in vitro. Lasofoxifene has been shown to be effective in reducing disease activity in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, although it has no significant effect on x-ray crystallographic analysis or treatment trials in humans.
