Methyl 4-chloro-2-iodobenzoate is an efficient synthesis of 2,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid. The sequence of the molecule is cyclic and contains two hydroxylated groups in the polyhydroxylated chain. The molecule has a thioglycosyl, which is a glycoside with a sulfur atom on the sugar ring. The sulfur atom may be replaced by oxygen or nitrogen atoms to form different types of thioglycosides. Methyl 4-chloro-2-iodobenzoate can be used as a catalyst for palladium-catalyzed reactions, including arylation and lactonization reactions.
