It is also an activator for carbonic anhydrase and has been shown to interact with other moieties in the environment. 5-(3-Aminopropyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine dihydrochloride activates carbonic anhydrase by attacking the thiolate group of cysteine residues in the active site.
