4-Chloromethylpyridine HCl
CAS:4-Chloromethylpyridine HCl is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for the reduction of trifluoroacetic acid to acetic acid. It is used in a number of organic syntheses, including the conversion of chloroform to dichloroethane and the synthesis of acetaminophen. The reaction solution contains hydrogen chloride and metal ions such as aluminum or magnesium. 4-Chloromethylpyridine HCl reacts with these metal ions to form complexes, which are then reduced by hydrogen gas. The crystal structures of these complexes have been determined using x-ray crystallography and optical properties were studied using microscopy studies.br>br> The protonated form of 4-chloromethylpyridine HCl is acidic in nature, with a pK = 3.2 at 25°C. The chloride anion can bind to the metal ion forming a complex, which can thenFormula:C6H6ClN·HClPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:164.04 g/molRef: 3D-FC02845

CAS:It finds its application as a reagent for protection of carboxyl termini of peptides as 4-picolyl esters, providing a polar 'handle' which aids in separation and purification of the peptide. The group can be introduced in the presence of a base, e.g. tetramethylguanidine, is stable to acid-catalyzed removal of Cbz protecting group and can be removed by base, Na in liquid ammonia or catalytic hydrogenolysis. It is also applied in conjunction with Amberlyst™15 resin in peptide synthesis. It is an important raw material and intermediate used in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
