This compound has been shown to inhibit the polymerization of UV-absorbing compounds in sunscreens and protect against DNA damage caused by UV radiation. 1,3-Bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-propanedione also causes senescence in bacteria and damages the DNA of human skin cells.
