Trifluoroacetic acid is an organic chemical compound that belongs to the group of heterocycles. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 107 °C. Trifluoroacetic acid has been used in experiments as a lithiating agent, in which it reacts with lithium metal to produce lithium trifluoroacetate. The resulting products are optically active, which means they have different physical properties when viewed from different directions.
