It has been used in perfumery for its fruity, nutty, and leathery odors. 2-Isobutylthiazole has been shown to have antimicrobial properties and can be used as an additive in cosmetics and personal care products to provide protection against bacteria, fungi, and yeasts. 2-Isobutylthiazole is also used as a model system for studying the binding of odorant molecules by fatty acid receptors. The affinity ligands are often prepared using matrix effect or titration calorimetry methods.
