Acetyl-β-(methylthio)choline iodide
CAS:Acetyl-beta-(methylthio)choline iodide is a reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, which is an enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This drug has been shown to have irreversible inhibitory effects on cholinesterases and can be used to treat myasthenia gravis. Acetyl-beta-(methylthio)choline iodide has also been found to be effective against spermatozoa, with the effect being dose dependent. The drug's effect on muscle cells has been shown in vitro, with the level of inhibition increasing with higher doses. It is localized in reticulum and endoplasmic reticulum, where it inhibits protein synthesis by disrupting the normal folding of proteins. The drug's activity was monitored using bichromatic light and analysed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
