In addition, it is an antimicrobial agent effective against bacterial infections and HIV infection. Pyridine-2,6-diyldi(methylene) bis(methylcarbamate) can be used to treat inflammatory bowel disease by blocking the attachment of microbes to the epithelial cells lining the surface of the bowel. This drug also binds to human blood cells, which may lead to reduced blood clotting and increased risk for bleeding.
