CAS:Parisaponin V is a saponin with inhibitory doses in the low micromolar range. It binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits the formation of reactive oxygen species, which leads to cell death. Parisaponin V has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic effects in vitro and in vivo. In a pharmacokinetics study, it was found that parisaponin V is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, but undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
