Ethyl 2-(4-nitrophenoxy)acetate (E2NPA) is a synthetic, orally active antidiabetic drug that belongs to the pyrazole derivatives. It has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels in diabetic mice by activating the glucose transporter Glut4 and inhibiting gluconeogenesis. E2NPA has been found to inhibit cyclodehydration, an enzymatic reaction that converts glycerol into fatty acids and lactic acid. E2NPA also inhibits intracellular levels of ATP, which is required for cellular growth. This compound has been shown to have no effect on insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells.
