CAS:6-Hydroxypicolinic acid is a hydroxylated derivative of picolinic acid that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of microbial metabolism. It is an intermediate in the catabolism of picolinic acid, which is formed by the oxidation of tryptophan. The compound can be synthesized from 6-hydroxypyridine and picolinic acid. 6-Hydroxypicolinic acid inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme nicotinamidase, which catalyzes the final step in cellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) biosynthesis.
