Disalicylimide is an organometallic compound that contains a carbon-carbon double bond. It is unsaturated and has a hydration reaction with the perchlorates in the environment. Disalicylimide also reacts with benzamidine, which leads to the formation of salicylidene, which is an acidic compound. This compound is used as an oral dosage for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and other arthritic conditions. Disalicylimide can also interact with 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde, which is a carcinogen.
